December 2025 Astrological Outlook
I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving meal and celebration with friends and relatives.
As December begins, we are finally out of the shadowy retrograde season. Pluto, Mercury and Saturn have begun their forward movement, and Neptune will move forward on December 10, taking 3 of the slow-moving outer planets return to our future lives.
A stellium (3 planets in the same sign) forms in fiery Sagittarius, reinvigorating us. As we attempt to tie the threads together of an entire year of transformation, it is important to remember that December is a month of profound reorientation.
The illusions dissolve, truths surface and the path ahead becomes clearer as we attune to what is essential in our lives. This is the lineage of inner work: revelations, purification and renewal. This month may leave us wiser, steadier and more aligned as we release the events of the year 2025, the strangest year in decades. In numerology 2025 is a 9 year of endings, and 2026 is a 1 year of beginnings when everything changes with intense and unexpected surprise. We are in the final month of a very wild year unlike any other we have seen and lived through.
DECEMBER ASTROGICAL PATTERNS:
On December 2, Venus in happy fiery Sagittarius is in a great connection with Pluto in Aquarius. Relationships deepen and truth rises to the surface as emotional intimacy becomes more honest. Conversations open naturally, allowing old wounds to air so we can understand our feelings.
Full Moon in Gemini on December 4:
The Full Moon in Gemini shines a light on the need to know; the Sun in Sagittarius opposite the Moon is part of a mental axis where the Moon in Gemini wants to think logically and the Sun in Sagittarius asks us to think in a broader manner as well as the quest for meaning and expand our balance between two similar and different energies. This Full Moon is all about communication, attitude and a sense of adventure. During the next 2 weeks we need to express our feelings as the Full Moon brings illumination to our lives.
Grand Water Trine (Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn) 12/6-7
This the grand finale of this magical pattern which began in November. This triangle allows Mercury (in Scorpio), Jupiter (in Cancer) and Saturn (in Pisces) to open a window of flow, coherence and real-world progress opening. Anything that requires structure, discipline or emotional maturity is supported by this water triangle. This pattern seeds our long-term developments and future plans, infused with optimism and pragmatism.
Mars squares off Saturn on December 8:
These two planets are uncomfortable when they get together, especially when it has them squaring off. Mars is the planet of war and is especially intense when it is in a fire planet (Mars is in fiery Sagittarius until December 15). With Saturn occupying watery, dreamy Pisces, it may cause frustration, delays and disappointments. The image of the planet Mars is putting our foot on the gas, while Saturn puts his foot on the brake. Time to adjust and quit pushing.
Neptune turns direct while Mercury opposes Uranus and is trine Neptune:
Neptune has been retrograde since July 4. Now that he is moving forward and leaving Pisces for the next 166 years, it is time to face our illusions, expect confusing situations to become clearer. Creativity soars and in this time of illumination expect to have more faith in our dreams and visions as Mercury’s brings us a deeper intelligence to guide the way. It is a time for Uranus to surprise us with this destabilizing yet wilder clarifying time as premonitions, intuitions and flashes of insight abound.
On December 14 Mars squares off with Neptune and enters Capricorn thereafter:
Militant Mars in Sagittarius struggles with Neptune in Pisces for the final time for 166 years, bringing moments of disorientation and depletion. Fortunately, Mars moves into Capricorn for a 5-week climb. Mars is always grounded and determined in Capricorn. The next 5 weeks are open to success with hard work and common sense.
On December 16 the Sun in Sagittarius squares Saturn:
This is a time to use laser-focused reality checks, accept limits, take responsibilities and work on what is feasible and real rather than fantasy. It is not a time to be discouraged; it is a time to slowly thrive and stay grounded.
New Moon in Sagittarius on December 19:
The joyous Sun and Moon in Sagittarius join Mercury and Venus in a celebration of faith, vision and deep meaning. It also carries a desire for truth, purpose and inner reorientation and enough joy to overcome hopelessness and depression. It brings a glimmer of excitement for what’s to come: hopefulness, joy and laughter which will help to release the burdens of life.
December 20th & 21st bring a new season:
On December 20 we have the longest night if we are living in the northern hemisphere. On December 21 the Sun moves into Capricorn beginning winter in the northern hemisphere and the light begins to glow again in the days until June 20. On December 21 we are a pressure pivot point of change and celebration. In older days there were celebrations on December 21 as an homage to the return to light and it is a perfect day to set intentions and do rituals. I spent over 20 years providing rituals at this time, which makes sense to me since my daughter was born on December 21 and it is my favorite day of the year! December 23-29 (the Capricorn season begins:
On December 23 Venus in Sagittarius squares off with Neptune for the final time. Neptune is the planet of dreams and imagination, and he is moving into Capricorn since he will not be back in Pisces for the next 166 years. Let me know how it feels when Neptune in Pisces ends on January 26, 2026. Neptune begins his time in fiery Aries on January 27, 2026. Neptune remains in Aries until March 23, 2039. As Venus moves into Capricorn on December 24, we will all have a longing for stability and strength. On December 29 Mercury in Sagittarius squares Saturn in Pisces for the final time bringing commitment, communication and responsibility to find clarity, discipline and integrity.
